We had to get our baby boy’s hair cut, it was sometimes looking like a curly mullet. Haha! So what do we do, we make a photo shoot out of it! We searched around the Texoma area for a great vintage barber shop like I used to go to. We found the perfect one, a barber shop in Kingston Oklahoma, that is owned and operated by Gabriel Gorrell.
I used to go to Bill Jones’s barber shop in Henryetta, Ok with my dad when I was a kid and I loved it. Nothing like warm shaving cream, straight razors, and hair tonic. It’s getting harder to find awesome old barber shops where you can read the newspaper, watch a little TV, play dominos, or listen to old men’s story’s while you wait. There’s also a lot of history in these barber shops from old photographs to the big beefy barber chairs. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
Gabriel Gorrell in Kingston, Ok did a great job with our little one year olds hair. It was so awesome to watch our little guy sit so quietly and get his hair cut. We thought he would go crazy and move around a lot but he didn’t. When the barber was done he said, “it’s not a hair cut without some Lucky Tiger hair tonic”. He put some in Finn’s hair and smoothed it over to the side. It was awesome to watch him give our little guy the full barber shop experience.
His Barber shop was the perfect back drop for this little boys first hair cut. We’re so glad that he let us photograph this milestone in his shop. Gabriel has a lot of history in his barber shop. It was passed down to him when his dad retired and he has kept the many pieces of history that make this place great.
